Dawn’s diary 11-1-24

Here we go into another amazing winter season, folks!

We have seen a few flakes here and there, a little bit of white at the base of the trees, and the incredible people that work up on the mountain have begun to blanket the upper slopes. A couple weeks back, the top of Mount Washington was shut down for FULL WINTER CONDITIONS! What?! The pictures were beautiful, and it started to spread excitement for all the winter activities!

And, of course, Waterville Valley does it right! Let me paint a picture…

A quiet night, light snow falling and it’s so quiet you can hear the snow fall. You walk into town square with the Christmas tree all lit up, surrounded by bundled up families, hearing peals of laughter coming from excited children, and all the festive decorations come into view. You walk on, taking the beauty in and letting the anticipation of the holiday season begin to wash over you. You stop, looking at Corcoran’s Pond and notice the tunnel of lights leading to the snow blanketed beach… There is no other town as beautiful as this! (in my opinion, anyway 😊)

And now that I have set the stage, let’s talk about the happenings here to bring in the season! First, 11/30 at 11:30, the town all gathers in the town square waiting for the Cold Turkey Plunge where teams and individuals will dress in costumes and run into the pond.

Then at 3:30, Santa arrives in town square! So much fun and the excitement rolling off the children is uncontrollable! At 7 pm, the tree lighting happens, and for small kids and big kids alike, the joy is actually tangible! As if this day/night couldn’t get any better, drumroll please, the fireworks display begins!

And there it is folks, the holiday season has been rolled out everywhere, in and around town square, and the magic never ends! The perfect gift to give your family has been wrapped up and a bow placed carefully atop the gift of a new family tradition here Black Bear Lodge!
